Croatia, Portugal, Slovenia have highest m-o-m retail trade jump

In February 2017, compared with January 2017, Portugal, Croatia and Slovenia saw the biggest rise in retail trade in the European Union, Eurostat said earlier this week.

Among member states for which data are available, the highest increases in the total retail trade volume were registered in Portugal ( 3.1%), Croatia ( 2.8%) and Slovenia ( 2.3%), while the largest decreases were observed in Malta (-0.8%), Latvia (-0.7%) and Belgium (-0.6%).

In February 2017, compared with January 2017, the seasonally adjusted volume of retail trade rose by 0.7% in the EU28. In January the retail trade volume increased by 0.2% in the EU28.

In February 2017, compared with February 2016, the calendar adjusted retail sales index increased by 2.2% in the EU28 and by 5.4% in Croatia.

Among member states for which data are available, the highest increases in the total retail trade volume were observed in Slovenia ( 16.8%), Luxembourg ( 12.9%), Lithuania ( 7.6%) and Romania ( 7.5%), while decreases were observed in Belgium (-3.2%), Malta (-0.9%) and Denmark (-0.2%).
