Smart urban municipalities/cities and energy efficient industries - sharing experiences between Denmark, Slovenia, and Croatia

The goal of the conferences was to showcase Danish achievements in organising and managing smart urban municipalities and cities making them environmentally sustainable.

On Thursday and Friday, October 12.-13. 2017, Ljubljana and Zagreb hosted a conference entitled "Smart Urban Municipalities/Cities and Energy Efficient Industries". Both conferences were organized by the trade department of the Embassy of Denmark in Zagreb. The event in Zagreb was officially opened by the Danish Ambassador to Croatia, Christian Thorning, after an inaugural address by deputy Prime Minister of Croatia, Mr. Predrag Štromar, who underlined the political commitment of the Croatian Government, both domestically and within the EU. Partners of the conferences were the cities of Zagreb and Ljubljana, Association of Cities and Associations of Municipalities of the Republic of Croatia and Mayors and representatives of the Municipalities. The conferences attracted a huge interest including the media and were attended by around 250 people. 

One of the leaders of smart cities in Denmark, the Mayor of Albertslund Mr. Steen Christiansen, was a specially invited guest, who demonstrated the best guidelines for a successful local self-government unit. Accompanying the Mayor was Mr. Kim Brostrøm from Gate21, who gave a lecture on innovative solutions bringing hands on projects to the audience. Third guest from Denmark was Mr. Finn Mortensen, the head of the Danish state umbrealla organization, State of Green. He promoted a national green transition across the entire business sector and society.

The conferences presnted the latest trends and a multitude of innovative solutions with examples of practice and exchange of experiences. Panel discussions of Slovenian, Croatian and Danish representative of local self-government units and companies were also held.
