politics in denmark

Denmark is a constitutional monarchy. This is described in the Constitutional Act section 2. It means that the monarch has governing power, but the power is limited by the rules of the Constitutional Act.

Today, the monarch’s power is limited to a very far extent, so that the monarch has no independent power, and the country is governed by a government that is not opposed by a majority of Parliament.

Elections to the Danish Parliament, Folketinget, must be held at least every four years, and the latest Parliamentary election was held in November 2022.

The Danish Government as of then consists of three parties: The Social Democratic Party (S), Venstre (V), and Moderaterne (M). Mette Frederiksen (S) is the Prime Minister.
