Environmental Technologies

The increased focus on environmental issues in Croatia provides a unique window of opportunity for Danish companies to offer specialized equipment and services, thereby positioning themselves for long-term access to the county’s environmental market. The total environmental investments aimed at reaching the average EU standards for water, air and waste sectors will amount to at least EUR 1.5 to EUR 2.1 thousand per capita, totalling about EUR 7.6 - 8 billion.

Three areas can be considered to be of special interest:

Upgrading of the wastewater treatment plants in Croatia. Croatia is currently no. 1 country in the EU in terms of reported projects in the water sector, which are financed through the EU Cohesion Fund. In the next 4 years 3 billion EUR are projected to be spent in the upgrade of Croatian water utility systems.

Upgrading of the drinking water purification systems both on land as well as on the islands. Furthermore, there is a need to upgrade the drinking water transportation system, which has enormous losses of up to 50%.

Flood protection. This area has become the state’s number one problem with water, which means that the Croatian state company in charge of that segment seeks more sustainable solutions.
