Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals

The National Healthcare Development Strategy 2012-2020 developed by the Croatian Ministry of Health will expand health-related IT systems in the country and restructure the hospital sector. Around 93% of the medical device market is supplied by imports. Croatia has a small domestic production sector, supplying both the domestic market and other neighbouring countries.

Croatia's pharmaceutical market declined in 2014 and 2015 on the back of across-the-board cuts to reimbursed drug prices, government pressure to rein in pharmaceutical spending and a worsening fiscal position. As part of its accession to the EU, Croatia's budget deficit will require austerity measures, primarily in healthcare, which has seen runaway growth relative to the rest of the economy. Between 2015-2020, Business Monitor International project a compound annual growth rate of 0,6%.
