Environmental Technology

Kosovo has since independence received support from the EU to modernize it’s environmental technologies. These investments are projected to continue, mainly in the areas of:

  • A reliable and affordable supply of clean water. In Kosovo there are an inadequate number of water-treatment plants with lower than necessary capacity. The existing water supply networks are in poor condition leading to loss and increased risk of contamination. Furthermore, they are insufficient for covering the areas they serve which necessitates extensions both to increase the quality of coverage as well as cover areas which are not covered by the network. To accommodate these improvements the EU has invested around €60 million to date, with funds used to refurbish treatment plants and pumping stations, install water meters, rehabilitate and extend networks and, in the process, improve water quality.
  • Healthy disposal of waste water and sewage
  • Disposal of municipal waste (garbage)
  • Reliable supplies of electricity and heating
